"Always turn a negative situation into a positive situation."
—Michael Jordan

Sergio Garcia's solo exhibition of new sculpture and prints is titled Social. His new series of silk-screen prints, "Heat," employs the unorthodox medium of gunpowder. The term "heat" in American sneaker culture refers to a pair of rare and highly sought after tennis shoes. There are 12 retro styled Jordans represented in the series, recontextualizing the iconic image of the Air Jordan shoe into art and acknowledging their timeless appeal across the cultural landscape.

Garcia states, "I wanted to do an iconic image of my generation. For that, I chose the Retro Air Jordan shoes. I have been a fan since the mid 80s."

Sergio's work toys with viewers' structural expectations while stimulating curiosity and recollection. He provides a visual commentary, revealing a world of subjective morality which he challenges, and ultimately embraces.

In December 2011, the artist had his first solo exhibition in New York City at Frosch and Portman Gallery. In 2010, four of his pieces were selected to participate in a public art project organized by the Cannes Film Festival. Included in the project was his celebrated U-shaped tricycle, which greeted visitors in the Nice, Cote D'Azur Airport. Sergio was awarded first prize at the exhibition Celebrate Texas Art 2010 in Houston. John Zarobell, assistant curator of painting and sculpture at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, juried the exhibition.

Garcia states, "I wanted to do an iconic image of my generation. For that, I chose the Retro Air Jordan shoes. I'm a huge fan and I wore them since I was younger. I still wear them to this day."
