Kirk Hopper Fine Art, in cooperation with Alexandre Gallery, New York, is pleased to present a two-person exhibit featuring artists Lois Dodd (New York) and Roger Winter (New York).

Lois Dodd and Roger Winter are both prolific artists in their own right and have been friends over forty years. Both artists have followed their own paths and developed their own distinct styles, but share the same sensibility when it comes to realism. Lois and Roger often paint the same subjects—houses, trees, urban buildings—but their approach evolves from different origins. The ethos of Lois's painting is the broadly brushed surface of Painterly Realism, a loosely painted plein air style that began during the reign of Action Painting. Roger's paintings show a post Pop, Photo Realist influence. But the form consciousness of American Modernism is alive and well in both of their works and will be clearly seen in this exhibition

Biographies

Lois Dodd attended The Cooper Union from 1945-1948. In 1952 she was one of five artists to establish the Tanager Gallery, where she exhibited until 1962. From 1971 to 1992, Dodd taught at Brooklyn College, and she is elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and National Academy of Design. In 2012-2013 the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art organized a traveling retrospective of Dodd's paintings. It was accompanied by the book Catching the Light.

Roger Winter, born in Denison, Texas, currently lives and works in Santa Fe and New York. He holds a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin and a MFA from the University of Iowa in Iowa City. He returned to Texas in 1961 where he taught drawing and painting at Southern Methodist University for twenty-six years. Winter's exhibition history has included museums and galleries nationwide and his work is currently in the collections of the Atlantic Richfield Company in Los Angeles, Dallas Museum of Art, El Paso Museum of Art, Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, Frito-Lay Corporate Collection, Meadows Museum of Art, McNay Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Portland Museum of Art in Maine, and Southwestern Bell Corporation, among others.
